The service that is offered to the citizens of Norristown and surrounding communities will be enhanced by the professional competency attained through this certification process. A person certified to one of the Fire Service Professional levels will have demonstrated competency in the knowledge and skills required to perform at a particular level. Professional Qualifications identify the minimum requirements for a person at a particular level of progression. The purpose of these Certification Programs is to identify and recognize emergency service personnel whose accomplishments in training and education meets or exceeds NFPA standards for the Fire Service. The Department participates in the Pennsylvania Fire Service Certification Program and the Voluntary Rescue Service Recognition Program. In addition to firefighting, the department provides heavy rescue and water rescue services to Norristown and surrounding municipalities.
